About
Us

Somaliland Family Health Association (SOFHA) is a community-based organization rooted in improving the SRHR lives of the communities we serve. Our aim is to provide more direct SRH services, advance legislation that supports quality SRHR and reach a broad range of community members, especially young people and the poor. Our 2 clinics serve approximately 4000 women and girls each year. We provide comprehensive integrated SRH services including antenatal, postnatal, delivery, family planning and pediatric services. We also reach 1,000s of women, young people and men each year in our community health education programmes.

Our Vision
Our Vision is a Somaliland in which every member can seek reproductive health information and services. And that those services are safe, available, accessible and affordable.
Our Mission
Our mission is to increase the number and quality of services the Somaliland people receive through direct service, advocacy campaigns, training and research.

Diyaar local foods Processing

Diyaar Local Foods Processing is a sustainable nutrition and food security initiative launched by SOFHA (Somaliland Family Health Organization), focused on improving the health and well-being of mothers and children in Somaliland. The initiative is designed to address malnutrition by processing locally grown food into nutrient-dense products that are both affordable and accessible. By focusing on the nutritional needs of mothers and young children, Diyaar works to improve diet diversity and provide essential micronutrients often lacking in the local diet. The initiative emphasizes the use of indigenous crops, such as millet, sorghum, and legumes, which are then processed into fortified foods like porridge flour, ready-to-use therapeutic food, and energy-dense snacks. This helps to ensure that families, particularly those in rural and underserved areas, can access the essential nutrition needed to combat stunting, anemia, and other nutrition-related health issues.Diyaar initiative also supports the local economy by engaging small-scale farmers, creating jobs in food processing, and promoting sustainable agriculture practices. It provides farmers with fair access to markets, reducing food waste by utilizing surplus crops that might otherwise go unharvested.

Sustainability

Some of the key training activities SOFHA conducts include: FGM/C awareness, sensitization training for religious and traditional leaders, community education seminars for teachers, parents, and youth, teacher training on gender issues, training for nurses and midwives on family planning counselling, and skill development. .
